Day 45

So I had a red pencil lying around…

On another note: Apparently I can't draw a leaf. I'll just "leave" that up to you. Tell me, this means comment, do you think I can draw a leaf? The poll begins now!

it is context. when you zoom in real close on a leaf it does not look like one. the question is: does your drawing look like the reference photo? maybe the reference photo does not look like a leaf. we just assume that it is a leaf by the context of the ladybug and the texture. if you spent a million more hours making your texture look photorealistic, then it would look more like a leaf. but that is not the point of the exercise of drawing a sketch a day. also, now you have experience in leaf-drawing. the next time you draw a leaf you can think back on this experience. but to answer your query: yes, it does look like a leaf. and a good one. you captured the details that i am sure was in the reference.

Well, no it doesn't look like the photo in my opinion, but then again I tend to be more on the literal side. Eventually I just had to stop. As you said to spend a million more hours, I felt as though I had already spent a million hours and was getting nowhere. At one point I stopped trying to draw the leaf and began trying to draw what an aerial view of a suburban neighborhood would look like. Kind of interesting the similarity.

Thanks for all your comments yesterday, I really appreciate all the insight and critique. The Van Gogh comment, wow, I really don't know how to just say Thank you and express just how much that comment meant to me. I F'n love Van Gogh. This extends to the comparison of Degas as well. You seem to have an extraordinary understanding of the artistic process and mentality behind the creation process. Believe me, you've got me re-inspired / energized. And please keep checking back in, you most likely will eventually see my attempt at a random pose drawn without skin. Sounds complicated and may be more of a weekend project.

Do you have a website? If so send a link, I'd like to see your work.
